1st portuguese to arrive to Korea

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Portugal (주포르투갈대한민국대사관) commissioned the artist Vhils a sculpture, located in Jardim Docas da Ponte, to remember the 1st Portuguese, the merchant João Mendes, to arrive in Korea in 1604.

This is one of two statues that will represent the close friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries, overcoming geographical barriers.

The second work will be of a Portuguese male face and will be placed in the city of Tongyeong.
