Urban Art in Arroios
Lisbon has become one of the most important Urban Art Capitals, with 15 years of promotion, programming and strategy work and consolidation.
In Arroios, previously known as the Parish of Anjos, we can go back to 2012 to establish a starting point in the universe of intervention that the parish has hosted over the years, often, with leading interventions (Bastetball court by AkaCorleone; Arroios Market by Studio BoaHora) or with strategic projects that have been leaving their mark here since the beginning (Underdogs Public Art Program, Todos Festival).
Ephemeral, provocative, persistent, accessible, some of the parish's oldest works are still in very good condition, while other have been preserved by time and the city's vitality in archives and memory.
We can see an important collection from Lisbon that offers us several possibilities for a journey, and an unusual way of looking at and travelling through Arroios.
Today, Urban Art is a strategy and a catalyst for appreciation, socio-commnity appropriation, generating feelings of pride and appreciation of the public space, as well as artistic appreciation.
From silver to lettering, from coloured geometry to black and white painting, from graffiti to Azulejo tile, from animation to photorealism, many artists have encountered possibilities in Arroios. From gates to buildings, from pavements to playing fields, from tiles in viewpoints to playgrounds, all surfaces were and are vehicles of diverse artistic expression in this parish, which we hope you enjoy.
