Rehabilitation of the Mata de S. Domingos de Benfica sports venue

The basketball court and the climbing wall, in Mata de S. Domingos de Benfica, were refurbished. After the intervention was completed, by the artists Opens external link in new windowFredy Klit and Opens external link in new windowPedro Loureiro aka Mojojojo, Lisbon has another colorful and restored sports venue, where you can practice physical activity - basketball and climbing, this being the first and only wall to have an intervention by urban art.

Resulting from one of the pillars of action of GAU, namely the intervention in the public and sports space, as a contribution to broadening and diversifying the offer of spaces for physical activity in the city, these requalifications represent the recognition and awareness of the city of Lisbon in the importance of physical activity and sport as determining factors in the construction of a human, inclusive, modern and sustainable city. In this context, renovating the existing playing fields, through the connection to the artistic sector is essential in this transversal affirmation of the city of Lisbon as an inclusive city, interventions that also mark Lisbon as European Capital of Sport, and we have the very important support of Opens external link in new windowHoopers.club and Opens external link in new windowFCMP - Federation of Camping and Mountaineering of Portugal, taking into account the work they have developed for both practices (basketball and climbing), in a year where each of these disciplines made their debut with great impact at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Since this playground is located in the middle of the Monsanto forest, the artists Fredy Klit were chosen, whose work fits in with the space, as they regularly use the representation of vegetation, nature and organic illustrations, and Pedro Loureiro aka Mojojojo, which portrays human figures and physiognomic details, such as hands, clearly visible in this new work, where we can observe nature and the athlete in combination of forms and action.

This intervention was coordinated by the Urban Art Gallery and had a partnership with the Opens external link in new windowSão Domingos de Benfica Parish Council, Hoopers.club and FCMP - Federation of Camping and Mountaineering of Portugal.
