THE LINEN GHOST, is Regg Salgado's interpretation of Terreiro do Paço in the 19th century. XVII, by Dirk Stoop (Oil on canvas | MC.PIN.0261 - 1662).
“The 2 de Maio neighborhood has had many struggles since its inception. Built during Portugal's dictatorship for the state police, the project fell apart with the 1974 revolution and was soon taken over by the people.
During the first critical moments, they struggled with basic living conditions. Sleeping on the floor, eating little and the cold are a day-to-day reality. A story that inspired me from that time was the night visits of white “ghosts”.
Several anonymous figures knocked on doors and screamed at night while wearing old white sheets. To this day, his identity is unknown. I painted the rooster on the tower next to the neighborhood to symbolize the bravery and courage of those first residents. Tiago Salgado - Regg”
